Toddler gym in Hilversum: move, explore, and grow

"It’s wonderful to see toddlers grow in confidence," says community sports coach Julia. "Some children are a bit shy the first time they come in, but after a few classes, they’re beaming."

At toddler gym in Hilversum, it’s all about moving, having fun, and exploring together. The classes are part of the program run by the neighborhood sports coaches Hilversum, who work every day to make sports accessible and enjoyable for all children.

Movement for Every Child

"Our sports classes are free," explains Julia. "This way, every child can join in, regardless of their family’s financial situation. We want movement to be accessible to everyone."

The neighborhood sports coaches are active in various neighborhoods across Hilversum and also support parents with questions about their child’s motor skills or physical activity.

Learning to Move Through Play

Julia runs toddler gym classes three days a week at schools in Hilversum. "The classes last ten weeks and align with what children will later learn in primary school. They discover their own strengths and abilities in a playful way."

The lessons always start with cheerful music. "We begin with two or three dance songs where parent and child dance together. Then we play a short game before letting the children explore the climbing and obstacle course. At the end, we sing the song ‘Bye bye, zwaai zwaai,’ which the children absolutely love."

A Flying Start with Movement

Toddler gym classes are a lot of fun, but they also provide a valuable start to a life full of movement. Being active is actually very simple: put on a song and dance together around the room. A child’s imagination does the rest!
