Smart with Screens: This is How We Do It at Bink

Children today grow up surrounded by screens. A video on the tablet, video calling with grandparents or a quick game on the phone — it’s all part of life. And let’s be honest: they often swipe faster than you can unlock your phone.

At Bink, we don’t think screens are necessarily bad. But we do believe: playing, moving and pretending always come first. That’s why we use screens only as something extra. Consciously, briefly, and always together with an adult.

How much screen time do children get at Bink?

We keep it simple: little screen, lots of play. But sometimes a bit of media can be very valuable.

  • 0 – 2 years (babies & toddlers)
No screens. Plenty of discovery, movement, and cuddling.
  • 2 – 4 years (preschoolers)
Very occasionally, up to 15 minutes. Think a cheerful song or a digital picture-book linked to a theme.
  • 4 – 8 years (young children)
Up to 30 minutes per day. For example: a dance game, an educational app, or reading a digital story together.
  • 8 – 13 years (older children)
Also up to 30 minutes. Often creative: making a video, inventing a quiz, or searching online for a recipe and cooking together.

Do children use social media at Bink?

No. TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube are only from age thirteen, so we avoid those. What we do: we teach children to think critically. Because online you sometimes see things that aren’t correct or kind. Together we talk about that.

How do we keep it safe?

We have clear agreements:

  • No phones, tablets or gaming consoles brought from home during care.
  • Smartwatches? Only if they stay silent.
  • We use internet filters.
  • And: we talk often with children about what they see online.
