Autumn is coming: let’s go outside!

The leaves turn yellow, red, and brown, chestnuts fall to the ground, and the first crisp autumn breeze blows through the streets. Autumn means: going outside with the children! Outdoor play is not only fun, but also incredibly important for children’s development.

Outdoor Play: So Much More Than Fun

Outside is a world full of discoveries. While children run, jump, and climb, they are also developing through play:

  • Social-emotional development: learning to play together, share, and negotiate.
  • Motor skills: running, climbing, balancing, and jumping.
  • Cognitive development: exploring, investigating, and problem-solving.

Even a rain shower becomes an adventure, and that step into a big puddle? Just a chance to laugh and get delightfully messy!

Rain? No problem, put on your boots!

At our locations, we spend a lot of time playing outside with the children, even when the weather isn’t perfect. Be sure to put on your boots too! Joining in is not only fun, it also helps children in many ways. You can actively guide the play and social interactions, children who find something challenging often dare more when an adult participates, and playing together gets more children moving, both literally and figuratively.

Autumn Fun Outdoors

Nature offers endless opportunities for play and creativity. Try:

  • Building an insect hotel from twigs and leaves.
  • An umbrella race in the rain: who can run the fastest with an umbrella?
  • Creating nature paintings using leaves, chestnuts, and acorns.
  • Splashing in the biggest puddles you can find.

Tip: bring along some hot chocolate or tea, put on your raincoat, and go on an adventure together. Because playing outside in the autumn is a real treat!
