International daycare Toermalijn

International daycare Toermalijn

International daycare Toermalijn is part of daycare centre Toermalijn and has two international groups: one for children aged 0 to 3 and one for children aged 2 to 4. This bilingual daycare is primarily intended for children from international families, where English is also spoken at home. Our educational staff members actively speak English and Dutch fluently with the children.

The location

International daycare Toermalijn is located in the heart of Erfgooierskwartier, within walking distance of the Westerheide and at a short distance from the Mediapark. Private parking is available. The group locations are bright and open, with separate designated activity areas where children are free to play and discover. A large open toddler play area is located on the lower level. Toermalijn’s outdoor playground gives children plenty of space and opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, complete with a sand box, lots of grass and a willow tree tunnel.

What makes International daycare Toermalijn special?

  • Bilingual daycare: educational staff members actively speak English and Dutch fluently;
  • Two groups (for 0-3 year olds and 2-4 year olds) with many designated play areas for specific activities;
  • Separate large open indoor play area where children can move about and enjoy on days when it is not possible to go outside and play;
  • Specially designed playground that challenges children to move about, play and explore;
  • Separate garden for babies;
  • The Westerheide is around the corner and we regularly go there with a group of children for a walk.

Growing up multilingual

For our International daycare we chose the OPOL method: One Person, One Language. Children that grow up with different languages at home are often used to using one language with one parent. We try to replicate this situation as much as possible. Our educational staff members actively speak English and Dutch fluently with the children. We start and finish the day primarily in English in order to facilitate good communication with parents. Bilingual daycare requires additional skills and knowledge, which is why our staff members receive extra guidance and coaching about language development.
